@robichon Looks amazing. I, too, have a goal project in mind, but for now, I am working on the basics. Your art and goal are an inspiration.

How exciting to get new supplies! :tada: Your first piece with the Chromaflow pencils looks great. Wax-based pencils definitely have a different feel. I really like the textures you achieved with them. I’ve always been a little hesitant to use wax-based colored pencils because of wax bloom, but I do have a set of Derwent Colour Drawing pencils, and I love how buttery they feel. The only downside is that they aren’t sold individually at the moment. I have used them for sketching outdoors; however I haven’t done a full colored piece with them. I’m excited to see what you create next as you experiment more! How are you liking the new paper so far?

Thanks for sharing your piece with us!

This 8x10 colored pencil drawing of a “Leaf floating on Lake Superior” took forever (I think about 40 hours). But that is not surprising with all the layers and blending. I took the reference photo myself and I used toned PastelMat paper. Prismacolor Premier colored pencils were used for most of it, with a few Luminance by Caran D’Ache as well.

That color pencil is really good Terri, you should send it to the critique. The ripples in the water are really defined, making it feel like it’s a calm stream, and it’s a little abstract at the same time. Really great piece :+1:.

Hi Sonia, hungry or singing out loud? You did great. Thanks for sharing your experiences with water soluable graphite. Are they erasable (spelling?) before or after you have them activated?

Hello @Buddy !

The water soluble graphite pencils can be erased (to a degree) when dry. I loved working with those.

Hi Siffermus - perfect! This wise guy (not Schlauberger!) does have a soul in his eyes, which I really do like. I had some Cromaflows, but the shafts were too thin for my liking and easily broke. Great to see them in your wonderful art work.

Dear Terri,

Oh yes, this (birch?) leaf is floating in shallow water. 40 hours is a lot of work, but time perfectly well dedicated for your art work. The water looks fantastic! Did you plan each and any ripples, stones, reflections in it before you started to color them?

The water tastes yummy and I can imagine smelling the autums leaves.

Really love it,
Buddy

Ps: Terri, I just made me some coffee and left the tablet on the table. I saw your art from a distance and a different angle. It’s stunning!!! Try it out yourself!

Hi @Samuel and @Buddy

I appreciate both of your kind words. When I took this photo, one of the things I liked was that realism can look abstract too. I actually drew exactly what I saw in the reference, but I had to go slow because I kept “getting lost”.

Samuel, I’ve already sent several things to Matt for the members minute, so I think I’ll wait a while before sending in anything else. But thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for your kind words. I am loving the new paper. I hape I won’t get wax blooms on these pencils - I tried that with the Prismacolour pencils. I can’t get Prisma Colours anymore, so I bought these Chromaflow instead. So far no wax blooms, and they play well with The Derwent Lightfast pencils - which is my favourite colour pencils. I have Derwent Drawing too - I don’t know where in the world you live, but here in Europe they do sell individually. Have you tried Derwents homepage. I know that Chromaflow penils will only be available as singles via their own homepage.

Sys

Wow - this is gorgeous. Well worth the time spend.

Hi Sys,

Thank you so much for sharing that!

As for the Derwent Coloured Drawing pencils, when I first purchased my set, I knew individual replacements weren’t available in the U.S. (I’m in Pennsylvania) I would check Derwent’s website from time to time, but it always looked like they weren’t selling singles yet. After reading your message, I did a little more digging today and was so happy to find that Dick Blick actually sells them individually now! I just ordered a few to replace the ones I was missing. Thank you for inspiring me to look again.

Wishing you lots of creative fun with your new supplies, can’t wait to see what you create next!

This isn’t recent, but from a couple of years ago. Pastel on Pastelmat. I like looking back to see what I’d do differently now. Here, I’d add more value contrast and maybe some more intense golds and browns.

This is a wooden bear that sits among the poppy mallow and guards my house. The same year I did this, a black bear was roaming my neighborhood. She liked eating eggs out of my neighbor’s chicken coop. I wondered how things would go if I went out to water and found she’d come to my garden to eat. These two bear friends led to my name–BearInTheGarden

Hi Twilah @Bearinthegarden

I love the story of how you came up with your name. I also think it’s very valuable for everyone to look back at older artwork and evaluate what you would do differently today based on what you have learned. Thanks for sharing and your continuing participation on the forum.

So this wasn’t recent either, but I thought it would be fun to show. This is Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars In Hong Kong Disneyland, on Bristol paper: smooth with the Staedtler Pigment Liner Pens. I really like doing stuff from theme parks, which some might know about, but the international stuff is really cool, mainly Tokyo Disney.

Hi @Samuel -

I immediately picked up on your theme park theme. Lots and lots of detail on this one. What size is it?

Terri

If i’m not mistaken 13inx10in.
